About

"The Submariners Bride Shop" was created by artist, Katie Scarlett Faile, as a place for other "submariners brides", submariners, and their families to find thoughtful, artfully crafted products to celebrate their unique submarine journey. Artist, Katie Scarlett Faile, is an internationally recognized artist known for meticulously detailed and whimsical works of art. Katie works primarily with traditional mediums to create beautifully wrought images that blend classic illustration themes with modern and often highly technical subjects, most notably, US Navy Submarines. Katie’s primary disciplines are watercolor and ink, but she also enjoys creating digitally for print. Katie loves to juxtapose heraldic symbology, historic themes, and classic color schemes with sharp technical renderings of modern machines. Can a submarine painting look like it was created for Medieval pirates? Why not? Her work has been exhibited and archived in museums, hung in officer ward rooms onboard US Navy and coast Guard vessels, used for DOD ceremonies and Memorabilia, featured in magazines and newspapers, and published in children’s books and other print publications. Katie grew up in the Appalachian Mountains surrounded by a family of artists. Her grandmother, a well regarded calligrapher and watercolorist, said her granddaughter ,“Katie-diddle-doll, just wiggles her pencil and magic happens." Her father, a craftsman carpenter, was always a bit baffled by the wild illustrations his daughter was forever doodling, but both he and her mother, who also painted professionally, encouraged her imaginative creativity. Along with her sister, an internationally recognized chalk artist, Katie's carrying on her family’s multigenerational tradition of fine art. Katie resides in WA with her husband, Erik, a U.S. Navy submarine officer, son Brayden, and her beloved pooches, Koa and Petunia. She spends most days working in the window of her studio lost in her world of paints.
