About

I paint. I mix my own colors. I tend to combine these colors in unexpected ways. I then design. My complex color work features intricate geometric patterns. It seems, among our design community, I should have a story to tell. I don't think I have this story. I have experiences. However, a cohesive story? No. I don't have that. I don't want that either. I do think, however, there are influences in relation to this project. I was at work, with a kindred soul, discussing my art endeavors. I'm a painter first before a textile designer. Only I paint for enjoyment, and possibly friendly gifts, etsying, and in relation to community movements, like open impressionism. That is my choice form of painting, and there are some amazing painters I have taken classes with. Anyone who enjoys color and good coffee books, I would highly recommend looking up Erin Hanson. She is one of the artists that I follow. Ali Kay is another artist and though she doesn't say she is an open impressionist, her method seems to be the open impression method. With OI, there is a lot of color work. I do a lot of this. I can simply spend the day making swatches of varying colors and color combinations all day long. I love it. There is not much to say once you establish an interesting color combination. When you experience it, there is just this understanding, without a word. Oftentimes I produce colors and match the colors with a RGB code value for digital work, and yet there isn't a name to identify the color. Still, the color exists, even if there isn't something literal to govern the identification. Color that defies the literal I think could be my story? Additionally, I do have experiences, such as growing up with a family that did furniture sales, so I was surrounded by swatches of fabric samples. We lived on a very large plot of land, all woods and a dirt road; Purely isolated, in silence for years. So yes, I would either imagine something or simply flip through these swatches. Maybe that too?
