Having grown up in the UK back in the 80's, I was always obsessed with the laid back surfing scene and aged 18 , I experienced my first road trip ( only a 300km, 4 hour drive ) to Newquay , Cornwall, the nearest surf beach and instantly fell in love with the sport and the adrenalin that comes with it. I used to cover my walls with surfing memorabilia, and would religiously listen to the Beach Boys, practicing my surf moves in front of the mirror. I grew long hair and tried to dress as a surfer would , which in the UK, in the 80's, was far from the norm . I thought I looked so cool, they thought very differently ! I then regrettably, had to listen to my parents and start to grow up , settle down and get a normal job, girlfriend and put on hold my dreams of tackling Pipeline one day. Ten years later, with all the shackles removed, I moved to Sydney Australia, and set up home in Manly and was instantly gravitated back to the surfing scene. There really is nowhere better to experience this lifestyle than in Manly, it is paradise and I have lived here ever since. I have always loved fashion, and having now hit the wrong side of 40, and accepted Kelly Slater's record was sadly now well out of reach, I thought I would combine my two passions and bring back some of my favourite memories from the Retro generation.
