About

By the time Gregg Optekamp was 18, he had lived on four continents. Being artistically expressive from an early age, and growing up with European parents who managed large international hotels, his artistic influences were steeped in the traditions of many diverse cultures during his formative years. These lasting influences can often be seen in his acrylic and mixed media paintings such as “Jade is Love”, a tribute to his time in Asia.  After studying at the College of Charleston, he worked in business development for many years. Never fulfilled by his corporate career choice, in 2016 he decided to pursue his lifelong dream of being a full-time artist. With a personal mantra of “Believe, Let Go, Create” guiding his passion, Optekamp is a prolific expressionistic painter, often working through the night with a seemingly endless stream of energy.  Optekamp’s paintings are most often vibrant and always uplifting. He seeks to elevate himself and the moods of viewers in the process. “I’ve connected on all emotional levels while painting.  It’s the closest I’ve known myself, my journey, and my peace”, states the artist. With titles such as Abundant Life, Regal Journey, Come From Love, Adventures Ahead, and Galaxy of Peace, his paintings focus on the positive and hopeful attributes of the human spirit. His art sits on the walls of avid master art collectors across the globe which include Norway, Sweden, Germany, Denmark, Australia, Canada. Brazil, Mexico and all across the United States. He is masterfully placed between the Greats such as Marc Chagall and Dali, to name a few. Several collectors have coined him “The Next Generation of Pollock with a twist”. Gregg has been written up in various publications this year like the cover of the Galveston Post and Galveston Waves Magazine, just to name a few. Gregg is also well known for all his donations to many charities and has recently been invited to Art Basel in Miami.
