About

During his more than 50-year career with The Post, Rockwell contributed over 300 paintings. Famous for such endearing illustrations as “The Four Freedoms”, “The Runaway”, “Marbles Champion”, and “Triple Self Portrait”, Rockwell is still commonly revered as the best known and most universally loved American artist. Rockwell’s artwork represents a simpler time in America’s history: a time of good family values and honest, homespun virtues: when fresh-baked apple pies were set on the windowsill to cool, and neighbors laughed with one another over a white picket fence: when small boys ventured to the creek with fishing poles slung over their shoulders to enjoy the summer. Rockwell once said, “I was showing the America I knew and observed to others who might not have noticed.” For over a century, The Saturday Evening Post has reflected the American lifestyle in its editorials, in its fiction, and in the art that appeared both inside and on the cover of the magazine.
