James Gordaneer, RCA, was born in Toronto, Canada, in 1933. He began making art by drawing with a stick in the dirt in the playground, learned painting alongside mentors from the Group of Seven and their associates, and over a prolific 60-year career, produced thousands of vibrant, original works of abstract expressionism in oil, acrylic, and watercolour. He lived for 40 years in Victoria, Canada, where he was a much-loved mentor and member of the local arts community until he passed away in 2016.
