Dubhghlas

Dubhghlas is a dual citizen of the United States and Republic of Ireland, and paints under the traditional spelling of his first name, Dubhghlas (pronounced “Dove-Gloss”), which means “black green” in Irish Gaelic language, although as a child he was convinced it meant “black and blue.” He admits that he was a mischievous child and is now a mischievous adult. Translated to English, his name is Douglas. Dubhghlas was trained formally at an early age in a prestigious private art school. When studying art in university, he realized that while the academics of art made him a good technician or perhaps a mechanic, he was not inspired creatively and eventually moved into a successful career in the music business. In 2003, Dubhghlas rediscovered his passion for art while living in Dublin, Ireland and traveling extensively throughout Western and Eastern Europe. His approach is whimsical at times, but more often than naught he prefers to pose questions than provide answers. Like most artists, Dubhghlas strives to communicate through his art, exploring spirituality and the human condition, but has no intention to become a postman and blatantly spell things out. Influences on his art include include impromptu conversations, the events of everyday life, the search for truth and beauty, and wrestling with questions of art, faith and humanity. Dubhghlas’ work has been featured in publications such as Art Business News, Memphis Downtowner and many more, and has exhibited his paintings in Europe and North America. Dubhghlas currently resides in Colorado. He owns a Jeep but not a dog. If he did own a dog, he would probably name him something creative like Spot or Fido.
