For the past 15 years I have started my Christmas shopping on the morning of Christmas Eve and that is totally by choice. I love being amongst the frantic husbands that are trying to remember the gift their wives (not so subtlety) mentioned every other week since last Christmas and the totally calm crowd searching for “a few more stocking stuffers” and the frazzled shoppers looking for the perfect “white elephant “ gift or the present that will make a lasting first impression on their significant other’s parents. I start around 8:30 am and like clockwork I pull into my mom’s driveway around 1:00 pm to find my little sister unwinding from her three hour drive home as my mom awkwardly moves about the kitchen as she prepares her required dish (typically a simple crockpot medley)for the annual, family Christmas Eve party. She is the best mother on the planet but she will be the first to say, cooking is not her strong suit. With a hug from my sister and an eye roll from my mom and the “you can’t wait til the last minute and expect me to drop everything to wrap your present” same ol’ lecture, both are gathered around as I pull out the gifts for my partner. I am a very good gift giver... this is a skill I’ve honed and perfected over the years by listening, asking questions months before the occasion and entering every idea that comes to mind into my notes app. After i reveal the gifts I look at my elves to get their seal of approval then I pull out different wrapping paper, bow and/or ribbon for each gift. My problem has always been not finding wrapping paper and accessories that reflect my and my recipients style and personality- from the wrapping paper down to the ribbon! I want the outside of my present to be just as personal as what’s inside.
