Cumberland Mountain Art

Paintings of the Cumberland Plateau in Tennessee by M Rogers. The paintings in this series are of my homeland, the ridges and hollows of the western escarpment of the Plateau. Most feature vertical landscapes and the many associated waterfalls. Smaller paintings typically focus on native plants and wildlife. The southern Cumberland Plateau is home to one of the most diverse forest ecosystems in the world. It rises about 1000' above the surrounding lowlands producing a perimeter landscape of waterfalls, exposed rocky cliffs, deep gorges, shady coves, sandstone arches and numerous climatic niches filled with rare plants and animals. This complex landscape provides an ever changing artistic setting with dramatic seasonal color changes, ethereal fogs, and colorful sunrises framed by mountain ridges.
