The boy is holding two drumsticks in his hands and he is beating the drum. He is standing on a dirt road in a rural landscape. There appears to be a town or village behind him in the distance. The sky is covered completely with grey clouds. The original Italian title of the painting is "Tamborino", which means "Drummer Boy", and it was painted by Gerolamo Induno in 1854.
