A WWI French advertisement for ' Stamps of the French Army '. A large number of military stamps were produced during the war which featured all the various units that made up the French Army. These were not stamps to be used as postage but were commonly found on envelopes sent through the mail. One could collect these military stamps as one might collect baseball cards today.
