World Record Halibut caught in Dutch Harbour, AK Postcard

This halibut was caught by a Jack Tragis during the 1996 Dutch Harbour Halibut Derby. The fish weighed in at 459 lbs and set a world record for sports fishing. Ken Gaffey, the taxidermist who preserved the fish, donated the trophy halibut to the City of Unalaska and Alaska Airlines donated the freight costs. The fish originally graced the doorway to the city council chamber, but now has a home at the Museum of the Aleutians on the Dutch Harbour side of the community.
