Kirkjufell is located on the north coast of the Snæfellsnes Peninsula and is often called the “most photographed mountain in Iceland” because of its distinctive, perfectly shaped peak and the nearby Kirkjufellsfoss waterfall that creates iconic photo compositions. Its name means “Church Mountain” in Icelandic, likely because of its tall, pointed shape resembling a church steeple. It’s especially popular during sunsets, the Northern Lights, and winter when snow highlights its symmetrical slopes, making it one of Iceland’s most famous natural landmarks.
