William Blake Illustration: Dante's Divine Comedy Holiday Card
"Antaeus Setting Down Dante and Virgil in the Last Circle of Hell" is a watercolor, pen, ink and pencil illustration, created by William Blake for Dante's "Divine Comedy," circa 1824-1827. The media used was pen, ink, pencil, and watercolor. This illustration currently resides in the National Gallery in Melbourne, Australia.
In this fascinating scene, we see the kind giant Antaeus reaching over to help Virgil and Dante escape from the monstrous giants who are after them. Antaeus does this by lifting them and placing them in the pit that forms the ninth circle of Hell. Dante and Virgil continue on their journey. After a series of adventures and spiritual tests, which include a horrific confrontation with Lucifer, they reach the River of Forgetfulnesss and emerge on the other side of the Earth.

I love this card. The graphics are on the inside and back of this card. It's superb. You won't find anything like this anywhere else. The card stock is thick and impressive and the colors were spot on. The colors were printed exactly as it looks online. The gold color looks like gold.
