William Blake- Antaeus setting down Dante & Virgil Postcard
This Symbolism illustration masterpiece titled, Antaeus setting down Dante and Virgil in the last circle of hell is made by the famous painter, William Blake using pen, watercolor on paper in 1827. Blake started engraving copies of drawings of Greek antiquities purchased for him by his father, a practice that was preferred to actual drawing. Within these drawings Blake found his first exposure to classical forms through the work of Raphael, Michelangelo, Marten Heemskerk and Albrecht Dürer.
