William Bedford New Bedford Harbour at Sunset Postcard
A beautiful print of "New Bedford Harbour at Sunset" an oil on canvas painting created in 1858 by William Bradford (1823 –1892) an American romanticist painter, photographer and explorer. Bradford was born in Fairhaven, Massachusetts, near New Bedford. He is known for his paintings of ships and Arctic seascapes. His early work focused on portraits of the many ships in New Bedford Harbour. In 1858, his painting “New Bedford Harbour at Sunset” was included in Albert Bierstadt's landmark New Bedford Art Exhibition. He went on several Arctic expeditions and was the first American painter to depict the frozen regions of the north.
