Wikipedia is Full T-Shirt

Let me be clear: I love Wikipedia, the website. Where else can you go to learn that 0.999 = 1 or study the Australian Green Tree Frog after reminding yourself of the name of the unfortunate serial victim of Arthur Dent from HHGTTG? What I don't love so much is the circle of users who turn it into Encyclopedia Pedantica. I don't mind them wanting verified sources, that's just being responsible. But the nit-picks like "Lists of miscellaneous trivia are bad!!" don't belong. Because trivia, even pop culture trivia, is data. Data that might not be collected anywhere else. And there's no better place for it to be collected. In days of Olde encyclopedia editors had to work with the constraints of the printed page, especially the count of how many pages they could print. Some things had to be trimmed. Not so in the virtual world of Wikis. So let that article on that old TV series live right next to the one on medieval philosophy ...it's not hurting anyone. ;-)
