Fàilte gu Alba! That's welcome to Scotland in Gaelic, though few people speak that in Gretna, where this photograph was taken. The sign can be found just off Junction 45 of the M74 motorway, on the northern side of the River Sark. It is opposite the old Tollbooth house, which now serves as a lovely restaurant. The photograph was taken on September 18th 2014 - the day that Scotland held its Independence Referendum. On the step before the English-Scottish border sign, somebody had laid a bouquet of flowers.
