John William Waterhouse Tristan and Isolde mug. Oil painting on canvas from 1916. English painter John Waterhouse regularly drew on literary themes. Tristan and Isolde is one of his last paintings and reveals the artist utilizing bright colours and hard outlines. The Irish princess Isolde stands on the deck of a ship holding a potion in a flowing red dress with fur trim. The girl also wears a green shawl with gold embroidery as her veil blows in the wind. The hero Tristan stands in full armour as he takes the golden chalice from the girl. Both characters stand on a ship at sea, and a small castle can be seen in the background. A great gift for fans of J.W Waterhouse, the Pre-Raphaelites, English Romantic painting, and Northern myth.

I was originally happy about my purchase and Nana loved the gift. HOWEVER, the description specifically says that these are microwave and dishwasher safe, BUT the first time Nana put this mug in the dishwasher it was destroyed. Not impressed..
