Water Resources II - John Wesley Powell Mouse Pad

John Wesley Powell was director of the USGS from 1881-1894. USGS initiated a National Streamgaging Program in 1888 with training and gauge installation on the Rio Grande River near Embudo, New Mexico. The initiative was part of the Irrigation Surveys under Director John Wesley Powell (adapted in part from Rabbitt, MC, 1989, USGS Circular 1055). These stream gauges provide long-term, accurate, and unbiased information about streamflow to meet the diverse needs of the US populace. The USGS stream gauging network is currently funded in partnership with over 800 Federal, State, and local agencies (please see http://water.usgs.gov/nsip/ for more information).
