Water Lilies by Claude Monet, oil on canvas 1915-1926, is a large, panoramic landscape painting of a pool of water lily pads floating upon a pool of calm water in a flower garden pond, the forms of the plants on and under the water dissolving into the atmosphere and reflections of the surrounding garden plants. Painting from the elaborate flower garden at his home in Giverny, Monet fills the entire picture plane with a nearly abstract composition, as his Water Lilies series heralded much of the abstract painting of the 20th century.
