Originally called Entrenched (A message from Tommy (C)Atkins at the Front) our card features a British First World War illustration by famous English cat artist Louis Wain. Tommy Atkins was Everyman. The painting shows a debonair British soldier cat (Tommy Catkins) contentedly puffing on a cigaret with one paw. In the other paw is a rifle. It makes light of the trauma of the war and lulls the folks back home to think that the war was a piece of cake. If only. Still, as a piece of cat art and social history, it is absolutely fantastic. Cat lovers will appreciate it.
