Virgin Mary & Jesus with Angels Playing Music "Glorification of The Virgin" was created by Dutch artist Geertgen tot Sint Jans, circa 1480. Mary and Jesus are depicted standing on a salamander. The salamander represents virginity, courage and faith and in this way it symbolizes the Madonna. It also represents the "King of Fire" and is associated with Christ who baptized through the fire of the Holy Spirit. The Virgin Mary and the child Jesus are surrounded by musical angels playing a symphony of instruments in the Heavens. This is the inner right wing of a diptych painted with oil on wood panel.
