Vintage William Morris Greenery Forest Animals

The artistic design on this product is inspired by a William-Morris-tapestry-design created by, his assistant and first apprentice, John Dearle. The tapestry was commissioned in 1892 for the country home of Madeleine and Percy Wyndham. It’s a very rich tapestry with forest scenery featuring trees, dense foliage, animals and flowering plants. William Morris (1834-1896) was an iconic English textile designer who lived during the Victorian period. He was a significant contributor to the revival of traditional British textile arts and methods of production. Much of his work can be found in art galleries and museums and his designs are still in production. Although best known in his lifetime as a poet, Morris is recognized as one of the most significant cultural figures of Victorian Britain.
