Vintage Wild Animals, Hamsters by Louis Sargent Poster

Vintage illustration wild animals mammals design featuring hamsters in a forest. Louis Sargent illustrator, from "My First Book of Animals" by Lena Dalkeith, c. 1918. Hamsters are rodents that belong to the subfamily Cricetinae. They have become popular as a small house pet, partly because they are easy to breed in captivity. In the wild, hamsters remain underground during the day to avoid being caught by predators. They feed on seeds, fruits, and vegetation, and will occasionally eat burrowing insects. They have elongated cheeks that extend to their shoulders so they can carry food back to their burrows.
