Vintage illustration wild animals rodents design featuring capybaras in the wilderness. Louis Sargent illustrator, from "My First Book of Animals" by Lena Dalkeith, c. 1918. The capybara (Hydrochoerus hydrochaeris) is largest rodent in the world and is of the genus Hydrochoerus. Close relatives are guinea pigs and rock cavies, and it is more distantly related to the agouti, chinchillas, and the coypu. Native to South America, the capybara lives in forests and savannahs and lives near bodies of water.
