Vintage Vinegar Valentine - Scandel Monger, Holiday Card
In the late 1880s to 1940s, Vinegar Valentines were a popular way to send a message to someone you didn't like or someone you wanted to prank. They had rude but funny messages about a type of person that was written as an insult. This card depicts an older woman who looks terrified as she sits and retells a scandalous story that she has likely embellished to make it much worse than reality. The verse on the front of the card says "A Professional Scandel Monger - Your evil tongue, malicious liar, is a public pest, a nuisance dire! To see you muzzled fast and tight would be to all a lovely sight." The inside of the card is blank for your own message.
