Chemin de fer de Paris à Orléans, Château de Saumur 1924 Saumur Castle or Chateau de Saumur. Samur Castle is a medieval fortress that was constructed in the 10th century to defend against Norman incursions. The Count of Blois, Theobald the first, ordered the construction of the fortifications. The castle still stands today in the republic of France. More recently there was 'The Battle of Saumur' where French troops defended the city from Nazi Germany for the battle of France. This posters artwork was commissioned by the Chemin de Fer, the national state railway of France. It depicts the Loire river met by the prominent castle defences.
