Vintage Theatre Opera Carnival 1896 Postcard
Jules Chéret, 1896, for the 1896 Carnaval in the Opera Theatre (Paris). The gala fancy-dress ball took place Samedi (Saturday) gras, the predecessor of mardi gras. (literally fat tuesday)
Colour scheme: brilliant vermillion to light gold ( top red over orange to yellow), black, white, grayish pistachio (green in dress), dark phthalo blue titles), pink (seat, people in the back)
Jules Chéret (May 31, 1836 – September 23, 1932) was a French painter and lithographer who became a master of Belle Époque poster art. He has been called the father of the modern poster.
