Vintage - New Forest Foxhound Dogs,

Vintage artwork titled "New Forest Foxhounds" by John Emms depicts a group of foxhounds in a barn or stable. Some are lying down resting while others sit upright. All, though, are alert with eyes wide open. Could they be waiting to be called for the hunt? The English artist, John Emms (1844-1912) was an avid hunter and became famous for his paintings of sporting scenes, horses and dogs, particularly Foxhounds and Terriers. He married a woman from Lyndhurst in 1880, and after a brief residence in London, they returned to Lyndhurst where they established a home and studio called The Firs. Emms lived there for the remainder of his life. He was famous not only for his artwork, but also for his big personality, flamboyant style of dressing, and often careless spending of money.
