Vintage - Mermaid and Fisherman,

A vintage illustration by Clara M. Burd of a young fisherman in his rowboat near the shore. His fishing nets are over the side of the boat, and he has one leg out of the boat as if he's either getting into the boat or getting out of the boat. Appearing directly in front of his boat is a beautiful young mermaid who emerges from the waves, with bubbles and seagulls flying in the air. On the horizon in the distance, the sun is setting and casts a beautiful glow over the sea. Is he getting out of his boat to go to her? The American artist, Clara M. Burd (1873-1933) was born in New York, and studied art in New York City and later in Paris. She is best known for her illustrations for children’s books, but she also illustrated for magazine covers, designed stained glass and murals for churches, and painted children’s portraits and scenes from historical periods.
