VINTAGE MADONNA AND CHRIST CHILD postcard. Mary in Blue Robe holding the Christ Child. A most beautiful painting. Perfect for Christmas or any time of year. I always liked this painting but only recently got any information about it. The way I found out was this. I found a decent resolution of it and created a poster as large as I could with it then posted that online then did a picture search with that image and went through the results most which were different but similar images. ... most were other Madonna and Christ Child paintings. Then, I found this: Original was: Oil on canvas. Painted by Austrian Nazarene artist BARON CARL VON BLAAS THE ELDER (April 28, 1815 - March 19, 1894) SIGNED AND DATED ROM (ROME) 1847 Student of Venice Academy 1832 - 1837. "AND IN HIM SHALL ALL THE TRIBES OF THE EARTH BE BLESSED" English translation from Latin title taken from the Bible (Psalm 72:17 or Genesis 22:18). (The first refers to psalm song by King David to his son King Solomon but evoking Messianic prophecy of the coming of Christ. The second refers to the promise made to Abraham.)
