He was a founding member of The Blue Rider, a journal whose name would later become identical with the circle of artists collaborating within. Marc was born February 8, 1880 in Munich, Germany to a father who was a professional landscape painter. His career was cut short by his early death on March 4, 1916 after suffering head injury at the Battle of Verdun during World War 1.
