Vintage Elizabeth Gwillim Purple Heron Tapestry
Elizabeth Gwillim (1763 –1807) was an English artist and naturalist who while living in India from 1801-1807 painted a series of approximately 200 watercolors of Indian birds. Gwillim drew the birds from observation of them in their natural environment – her production was about 20 years before John James Audubon. Her work has been commended for its accuracy and natural postures.
