Vintage Christmas Little girl snow candles CC0319 Postcard

Greeting card inspired by an adorable Christmas illustration by Swedish artist Jenny Nyström (1854 – 1946). The picture shows a very small girl walking down a snowy hill. The winter weather is not very idyllic, windy and gloomy, and more snow keeps coming down. Actually, the snow is pouring down so fast that you can't really see anything. In real life you wouldn't let your toddler be outdoors in a snowstorm like this, would you? But this is a Christmas card and the little girl is more of a Christmas symbol. Her purpose, I think, is to oppose the harshness of the weather by offering light and warmth, joy and merriments at a time of the year when these things are mostly needed. The girl is carrying a huge three-pronged candle, a traditional Christmas symbol in the Nordic countries. The three 'arms' stands for Faith, Hope, and Love. They also symbolize the Three Kings.
