Vintage Cat and Goldfish Art Postcard

This beautiful vintage postcard for cat lovers and admirers of vintage Japanese cat art features the work of traditional Japanese artist Ohara Shoson (1877-1945), also known as Hoson or Koson. Born Ohara Mateo, he was famous for his paintings of birds, flowers and animals at play. This painting shows a cute black and white cat with a very intent look in his eyes as he stalks goldfish swimming in a tank. He has a golden bell and traditional red patterned scarf round his neck. He stands on his hind legs with both front paws resting on the net above the tank. The net means his hunting is likely to end in disappointment but he’s having fun trying to catch a fish for supper!
