The Atomium, one of Belgium’s most iconic landmarks, is a striking architectural structure located in Brussels. Originally built for the 1958 Brussels World Expo (Expo 58), the Atomium was designed by engineer André Waterkeyn and architects André and Jean Polak. The structure represents an iron crystal magnified 165 billion times, symbolizing progress in science and the peaceful use of atomic energy. Standing 102 metres (335 feet) tall, the Atomium consists of nine interconnected spheres, each measuring 18 metres (59 feet) in diameter, connected by tubes containing escalators and staircases.
