A reproduction of | Farewell | Artist: August Macke (1887 - 1914) | Oil on canvas | Circa 1914 | Current location Museum Ludwig, Cologne Germany | August Macke was a German expressionist painter and was one of the leading members of the German Expressionist group called The Blue Rider. Macke was born in Westphalia, Germany on January 3, 1887. Judging from the calibre of work he left behind we know he had a very promising art career. Sadly, his life and career were cut short during World War 1 when on September 26, 1914 he died at Champagne, France – he was only 27 years old.
