Vincent van Gogh - Restaurant de la Sirene Magnet

Restaurant de la Sirène at Asnières (Le Restaurant de la Sirène à Asnières), painted in 1887 in oil on canvas by Dutch Post-Impressionist painter Vincent van Gogh in Asnières. The white façade of the Restaurant de la Sirène stands amid trees and roadways at Asnières, one of the suburban areas Van Gogh explored outside Paris. During 1887 he worked there in close contact with artists experimenting with broken colour and brighter palettes. Short strokes and strong complementary contrasts transform the ordinary restaurant into an energetic study of light, architecture and modern leisure.
