Vincent van Gogh - Olive Trees, Yellow Sky and Sun Poster

Olive Trees / Olive Trees with Yellow Sky and Sun (Oliviers avec ciel jaune et soleil), painted in 1889 in oil on canvas by Dutch Post-Impressionist painter Vincent van Gogh in Saint-Rémy-de-Provence. A large yellow sun hangs over the olive trees beneath a sky transformed into sweeping bands of gold and green. Van Gogh preferred to paint the actual groves around Saint-Rémy rather than invent a biblical Garden of Olives, believing that direct contact with nature gave the subject greater force. The entire landscape - sun, sky, trees and earth - is drawn into one undulating rhythm of intense color.
