Olive Grove / Olive Grove: Bright Blue Sky, painted in 1889 in oil on canvas by Dutch Post-Impressionist painter Vincent van Gogh in Saint-Rémy-de-Provence. Van Gogh sets the olive grove beneath a brilliant blue sky, using cool greens and blues to structure the sunlit orchard. The trunks bend and fork across the field while repeated strokes in the leaves and ground keep the entire surface active. Painted during the first summer phase of his olive-tree series, the work turns the familiar grove into an experiment in complementary colour and rhythmic pattern.
