Olive Grove, painted in 1889 in oil on canvas by Dutch Post-Impressionist painter Vincent van Gogh in Saint-Rémy-de-Provence. Van Gogh began painting the olive groves around Saint-Rémy soon after he was allowed to work beyond the immediate hospital garden. Gnarled trunks and silvery foliage are built from short, directional strokes that make the orchard appear alive with heat and movement. The motif became one of his central Provençal subjects, allowing him to explore shifting light while remaining closely tied to direct observation.
