Vincent van Gogh - Impasse des Deux Freres Tile
Street Scene in Montmartre: Le Moulin à Poivre (Impasse des Deux Frères), painted in 1887 in oil on canvas by Dutch Post-Impressionist painter Vincent van Gogh in Paris. The narrow lane of the Impasse des Deux Frères leads toward Le Moulin à Poivre, one of the windmills that still marked the upper slopes of Montmartre. Van Gogh painted the area repeatedly in early 1887, attracted by the meeting of old rural structures, workers' houses and the rapidly changing city. Brighter colour and freer brushwork show how far his Paris painting had moved from the dark tones of his Dutch period.
