Vincent van Gogh - Flowering Plum Orchard Square Wall Clock

Flowering Plum Orchard - after Hiroshige, painted in 1887 in oil on canvas by Dutch Post-Impressionist painter Vincent van Gogh in Paris. Van Gogh closely followed a Japanese woodblock print by Utagawa Hiroshige from the collection he shared with Theo, but he altered the colors and enlarged the image into an oil painting. He added a border filled with copied Japanese characters whose decorative effect mattered more than coherent meaning. The work is one of his clearest Paris experiments in translating Japanese composition and color into his own painted language.
