Very nice tomato frog. Frog with unusual colour. Ceramic Ornament

When viewing an adult tomato frog, it is blatantly obvious how it got its name. A large, round, orange or red frog, the tomato frog is a nocturnal, terrestrial, rainforest species. The head is short and wide, and harbours a mouth full of teeth - an aspect not common to amphibians. The eyes sit high on the head and bear thick eye lids. Brilliant colours of the tomato frog act as a warning to potential predators that these frogs are toxic. A white substance secreted from the skin acts as a glue to deter predators and can produce an allergic reaction in humans Dyscophus antongilli is endangered in its native country as a result of deforestation and over-collecting for the pet trade. These types of Tomato frogs are protected under CITES (Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species) Appendix I and are ILLEGAL in trade! They eat small insects and invertebrates. It is frog, but this animals, this species is a poor swimmer. In fact, in zoos and aquariums, special precautions are taken to keep the froglets from drowning as they develop from the tadpole stage.

Very pleased with this item. I purchased it as a keepsake of my recent cruise around Spain. I placed my order on Monday and it arrived on Friday. That's fast considering I live in Alberta and it shipped from New York. The front was colorful and exactly as illustrated. The customization I requested on the back was perfect!
