Vermillion Postcard

Vermillion is based on Renoir's woman in "La Loge", and Slipknot's Song Vermillion, and the style of the collage is inspired by the Zetti style of Teesha Moore. The collage itself was done on canvas board using acrylics, old stamps, vintage images, pages from old books and dictionaries, decorative papers and stamps. This work is about the unattainable female, whether it is the Anima that men chase, or a woman's attempt at fulfilment of this image. The words in French translate to "she isn't real" a line from Slipknot's song. I pictured the lady from La Loge waltzing with the Corey Taylor during this song, teasing and flirting with him, but dressed more darkly. This piece is about "image", and the voyeuristic pursuit of images, as well as the idea of perfection, which is an unrealistic goal. In the case of anima, it is about unrequited love that is projected outward onto another person or image, that cannot fulfil that love. I have plans for a companion piece to go with this one, as Slipknot has a Vermillion part 2.
