Venus of Urbino (1538) by Titian is a vintage Renaissance fine art portrait painting featuring a woman, Venus (the mythological goddess of love) reclining on a sofa. Venus of Urbino is Titian's most famous work and was painted for Francesco Maria I della Rovere's private chambers. About the artist: Tiziano Vecelli or Tiziano Vecellio (1488/1490-1576) better known as Titian was an Italian painter and a leader of 16th century Venetian school of the Italian Renaissance. He was born in Pieve di Cadore and was often called Da Cadore, taken from the place of his birth.
