Valencia Beach in the Morning Light Poster

Sorolla was born in Valencia in 1863. Orphaned at the age of two, he began studying painting in 1877 and went to Madrid four years later to study in the Museo del Prado. In 1885 he moved to Rome and Paris. He returned to Spain in 1890 and within three years was the acknowledged leader of the Spanish modern movement. He maintained that position with prodigious creativity until he suffered a stroke in 1920. He died three years later. He created this masterpiece at the age of forty-five It measures 29.92 by 41.57 inches and is an oil on canvas. It resides in the Hispanic Society in New York City.
