Utagawa Kuniyoshi Woman (20) Poster

Another colour print from Utagawa's woman print series. Utagawa Kuniyoshi was a famous Japanese artist in the 19th century, and in many of his prints women were the main theme. In this print we see a Japanese woman kneeling down and praying with her hands clasped together. As usual she's wearing the traditional Japanese kimono, this time showing a blue, black and grey striped pattern. Behind her on the wall we can see a framed painting (or print) depicting what looks to be either a Japanese sage or warrior. This monk is standing in front of a waterfall, and is wearing bright orange and red coloured clothes. Utagawa signed the artwork in Kanji characters and Hiragana (Japanese writing).
