About This Design

Up Portland Head Light Tile

Up Portland Head Light Tile

This painting of Portland Head Light in Cape Elizabeth, Maine provides a unique close-up perspective of an iconic landmark. A simple palette of blues, greys, and tans create a detailed architectural painting of the lighthouse tower. Up close, the orange-yellow colour of rust is visible on the stones and railings, a reminder that the lighthouse has been in use on the rugged New England coast since 1791. Abandoning the typical landscape style used to depict Portland Head Light, White focuses on the structural details, depicting the stones, railings, and tower glass with painstaking accuracy.
